Thirty years after the closure of tin and copper mines in Cornwall, some of the old miners are still angry about it. However, the potential for a mining resurgence is sparking their enthusiasm: recent excavations proved that the groundwater is rich in lithium, a key element to produce batteries. To see whether the comeback of mining will also bring back prosperity to the region, Carlotta was commissioned by De Volkskrant to photograph some of the miners who used to work in the now abandoned tin and copper mines.
