Check out Paul Murphy’s fascinating new project ‘In Search of Ghosts’.
In 1859 gold was discovered in a shallow valley near Mono City in central California. Bodie became an affluent town, growing to 8000 residents hoping to get rich. During the 1900s the gold ran out and the residents started to vacate Bodie, leaving behind a deserted town that today is only inhabited by it’s ghost. Tourists now flock to the town to experience what it might have been like to have lived in a mining town in the late 1800’s.
Watching people walk around the Bodie, lost in their own thoughts, it struck Paul that they were in fact searching for the ghosts of the prospectors and their families who have long since gone.
